Artists: Joann K. Barrack Where do you live? Brampton, Ontario Canada What do you make? I make miniature polymer clay animals such as snakes and birds and also I create miniature paintings. What sizes do you specialize in? Mostly 1:12 scale but depending on the original size bigger and smaller too. When did you first become interested in miniatures? I was making ACEO's, which are small at 2.5 x 3.5 inches, which lead me to micro mini paintings and drawings. I soon found CDHM and instantly became enthralled with miniatures. I haven't looked back. Where do you find inspiration? In life and all living things. I've always been involved with exotic birds and animals, both through various jobs and my own pets and breeding experiences. Do you create fulltime? In my dreams I do, but unfortunately not yet. One day I will. Where do you sell your products? Mainly eBayŽ but also privately, in person and via my website, the CDHM web site and various other online venues. What is the price range for your products? My prices start at around $20.00 - $30.00 and go up from there. What does your family think of your art? My son is my biggest fan. Although he is very young, he has quite a miniature collection of his own started. Do you belong to any groups or clubs? CDHM is the most active of the groups I am involved in, although I am involved in other eBay groups, for art in general and for jewelry making. Do you run workshops? If so, please tell us about them. None yet. What do you love most about miniatures? Realistic details in something so small that it doesn't take up much room. I can collect virtually limitless numbers and only fill a small (in relation) area. Do you have any formal training in your miniature field? I am primarily self taught. What tool could you not live without? I guess I would have to say a very fine pointed paintbrush. What's the biggest difficulty involved with working in miniature? If I make an error, whether it's a painting or a mini animal, it's usually ruined and I have to start over. What's next for you and your creations? I'd like to work on my web site and devote some time to marketing. What's your favorite season and why? Spring. New life and bright colors after a dull dreary winter. Favorite guilty pleasure? Right now it's Pop Tarts. Biggest pet peeve? Drivers who wait until the last moment to get into a new lane when it was quite obvious that the lane was ending ages ago.. If you could go back in time, in which time period would you live? Medieval probably. What's in your CD player right now? Elton John. What is your fantasy vacation? Somewhere nice and warm when it's cold at home. |
