Step 3
Shape your body carcass by using the translucent/white mixture and forming a fat tear drop shape.
Step 4
Note: At this point it’s a good idea to fit your carcass of clay onto the plate or platter you have chosen for it!
Now carefully flatten one side of the carcass. This is going to be the visible breast bone on the carved chicken. in my pictures.
Step 5
Take a piece of your creamy flesh mix and shape it into a tear drop shape slightly larger than your last piece (carcass shape).
Step 6
Now you need to carefully thin this shape by pulling the bottom edge out. This is to create the un-carved side of the chicken.
Step 7
Then add this piece to the rounded side of the inner carcass and work it into place, trying to maintain the overall shape of the carcass.
Be patient – sometimes this stage takes some time to achieve a shape you are happy with! It’s also a good idea to keep checking the size is still ok for your chosen platter!
Step 8
Take a couple of small pieces of the flesh mixture and build up the rear end of the chicken. Smoothing gently to cover the join.
