"My goal is to bring back a memory in a physical form to those who suffer the loss of a pet. I lost my own beloved Ted to cancer recently, so recreating him for myself using his fur was a bittersweet time."
Over the years Lucy's goals have never changed, she is steadfast and full of determination when it comes to her work.
"My goal has never changed, I want the dogs to have realism."
Her customer's reactions upon receiving one of her dogs is proof that she has achieved the realism that is the mainstay of her work. It's that realism that is the driving force behind all of her creations rather than the sales and money.
"The thing I hear most is: 'I cried when I opened the box.' This tells me I captured that animal."
"My work is very personal, it's not just a creation. There is a person behind the request for one of my dogs, and often it is a beloved pet that is being remembered. I do not take that lightly. Many tears are shed while working with people over their loss. It is deep for me, much more then just art."
Lucy doesn't limit herself to creating just miniature dogs, even though she frequently sculpts with her own four dogs sitting beside her. Less inspirational, but no less loved, are her five chickens.
