The inset shows my walnut and maple one-eighth-by-one-eighth-inch strips. I glue them together alternately. When the glue is dry, I have to crosscut the glued-up strips.
I've clamped a piece of scrap wood one-eighth-inch away from the blade as a stop block and clamped an auxiliary fence on my miter gauge. Then I butted the edge to the stop block and cut the strips. Then flip the strips end over end to get the checkerboard pattern.
Sand the surface of the chessboard perfectly smooth and flat before applying the finish. I love Red Devil©
