clearance insert for my table saw. This is absolutely necessary when ripping thin strips, as I am doing for this project. I also made an auxiliary fence with featherboard to hold the wood down, and a jig for ripping strips to the exact same width.
I previously made a featherboard to fit in the mitre slot so I just turned it around to make my jig. I used two bearings (from old rollerskate wheels) making sure not to tighten the nuts down all the way so the bearings can spin.
Also, I put a small piece of blue tape on my saw insert exactly where the cut begins, then measure one-eighth-inch from the tape to the bearings and tighten the wing nut on the jig. Position the rip fence so the edge to be cut is touching the bearings and tighten down the fence. To make the same thickness walnut strip, just re-adjust the fence to the width of the walnut.
