Other groups in South Africa are the "Little Steps Miniature Group," in the 'friendly' city of Port Elizabeth, and the "Durban Association of Miniatures" in Durban, well known for its lovely sub-tropical climate and sandy beaches.
There are also many miniature artists in our country who create wonderful pieces of work without the interactive support of a club of their own due to the vast distances to the main cities.
All of our organizations are non-profit, committed to promoting and expanding the love of miniatures. Workshops are held regularly where groups gather to learn and share the joys of their hobby/profession as well as the frustrations of various projects they are completing.
There is always coffee, tea and cakes provided at these events to make a lovely gathering point at all workshops, for hearty chats, and satisfied appetites. South Africa features three miniature fairs throughout the year, kicking off in the last week of August at the "J.S.M.E. Fair " held in the lovely suburb of Parkhurst, Johannesburg.
It is followed by "The Miniature Guild Of Cape Town" fair which takes place in a quaint church hall that creates a warm and cozy atmosphere for visitors to admire completed projects, and for doing brilliant shopping. These two fairs are followed by the Durban Association of Miniature Enthusiasts. (D.A.M.E.).
All of these fairs are eagerly anticipated. Dealers selling wares which have been either made locally or imported, give miniaturists the opportunity to purchase supplies as well as items offered for sale. It is also a great way to interest the public in the hobby of miniatures, as projects of great variety are displayed, which gives non-miniatures people a better visual understanding of how many different facets there are to this world within a world.
