Halloween has been a holiday that has survived throughout the centuries. Most of the activity we do today originated from many beliefs of the past. All Hallow's roots come from the Celtic festival Samhain and the Christian holiday All Saints' Day. The belief was then - and for some now - that the border between the world and the otherworld becomes thin on the night of Halloween, allowing spirits to pass though.
Many wore costumes to frighten away the evil spirits. Even today many of us still wear Halloween costumes. We may not be trying to frighten away the evil spirits as much as summon a spirit of fun as this favorite pastime brings many families closer together.
From its early days as a religious holiday Halloween was slowly been modernized to fit this century's tradition. Many of these traditions we practice today from trick-or-treating, horror films, jack-o-lanterns, bonfires, haunted houses and telling scary stories have been tied to the past.
One of many household favorite activities to get ready for Halloween is picking out the right pumpkin. If you don't believe me drive up and down the streets and count how many jack-o-lanterns you see on October 31st!
