To all children the world over, summer means ice cream and ice lollies! Deliciously cold and creamy textured, the ice cream just has to be eaten quickly before it melts down the cornet and makes sticky rivulets all over your hands! These days there are almost as many flavours for ice cream as there are countries in the world, a far cry from years gone by when a "99" with strawberry sauce (or monkey's blood as I knew it as a child!) was the only variety on offer!
Coffee and cream, pistachio, chocolate chip, mint chocolate chip, rocky road, Oreo cookie - the number of different varieties and textures is infinite and once more, if you have the imagination, the flavours can be endless! Would you believe that it is even possible to get garlic ice cream, sweet corn ice cream or potato ice cream? I don't think I'll be rushing out to try those flavours, no matter how hot it gets, but which enterprising food artist out there wants to give it a go?
Summer drinks, too, are no longer restricted to the long, cool gin and tonic or martini, sorry 007!
Cocktails, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic, come in a staggering variety of colour and taste! All the colours of the rainbow can be found and with colourful names to match - green vesper, blue Hawaii, blue lagoon, agent orange, white and black Russian, strawberry daiquiri, raspberry mojito - so now that it's hot, hot you'll find me under a leafy tree with a plentiful supply of cheese, salad and an extra large jug of raspberry mojito, everyone is welcome to join me!
