On the third Sunday of June in the US, we will honor our fathers by celebrating Father's Day. The beginning of the movement in 1908 to make it an official National Holiday in the United States took many years and the efforts of many people. It wasn't until 1972 then-President Richard Nixon signed it into law.
During the time in between those dates from idea to national holiday, the day became very commercialized and what had been initially planned as a one-day event turned into a three-week buying celebration referred to as a second Christmas.
Buying a special gift for Dad is still a heartily pursued tradition, but just as important for many of us are remembering the special interactions that happened in our lives to make Dad dear to us.
