"I didn't end up following in her footsteps with that kind of art, but I did learn how to do many things hanging around with her. As far as formal training I did start a sculpting class at a local college once, but quit before finishing my first project. I was going to go back later on, but the art teacher had retired by then and the school didn't replace him."
In a way, her painter neighbor mentor was a bigger influence than she ever realized.
"I really enjoy glazing, it's almost a zen-like meditation. Glazing is probably the hardest thing to do with "painting" so small, brushing on so many coats, but it is also my favorite job in making miniature pottery."
