Today I have my own arsenal of shearing tools and I want to go over some of the different types available. The first are a unique little set called Squizzers© originally designed for decals. These spring-loaded little beauties are great for many small intricate cuts and are fantastic for miniature work. At under $20.00 USD they are indispensable for the little details involved in dollhouse work.
Surgical shears have long done double duty in the crafts field. Their unique shapes and sharpness make them go-to items for doll clothing and other thin materials. Some have angled blades so that your hands don't get in the way similar in shape to the type many EMT's (emergency medical technicians) carry.
And then there is a unique repurposed surgical shear that is favored by ship building modelers. It is angled with a long throat that ends in tiny snipping blades. I would think this type of shear may be good for dollhouses as well because you can reach into an area without touching anything and snip away a random thread or some other Alligator shears previously unnoticed flaw that you would like to remove without disassembling the whole room.
