Tool Review

Specifically, a silicone molding material that you mix with your hands and form over an object rather than using all the messy procedures involved with traditional mold-making. As you can see from my pictures it is truly an easy process, by taking equal amounts of putty you knead them together to form one consistent color, in this case a pale yellow. The putty now should have a near goopy feel to it and you would then apply the putty to the object you want to copy and allow it to set up. Once cured, the putty has a very firm feel to it and depending on how you applied it, removing the original can be as easy as peeling it away from the mold.

If you wrapped the putty around an object then you may need to make an incision with a razor knife to "open" the mold and remove the original part. You now have a mold that you can reclose and keep shut using a stapler to press in staples over the incision. Now you are ready to make a duplicate of the original piece by pouring in a casting medium such as resin plastic (a two-part liquid that when mixed together hardens in minutes into a strong plastic), or wax, or plaster, etc. Once that medium hardens it can be removed from the mold as the original was and you have a perfect copy of your part.
