model train builders. They are just so useful to making shapes that are the same every time. You can see with these pliers you can bend wire without ruining it. What I mean by that is that the teeth of a regular set of pliers can dig into the soft wire and leave their telltale marks behind.
And if your project is making some sort of jewelry or decoration those marks are very undesirable. These specialized pliers are generally made with smooth surfaces designed for bending, not so much gripping, as is needed with the uses of a regular set.
For myself (a sculptor) one of the best ideas I have found was a jig designed for building consistent armatures every time with just this concept you can see that with a piece of wood you need to simply draw out the shape you need your wire bent into and using nails at every bend point you can create a custom jig for whatever your needs may be, in this case a figure armature.
