I have a friend who is legally blind and has to hold his work just off the tip of his nose to see it using a toothpick as his only tool. Yes, you read that correctly, a toothpick. With this lowly toothpick he makes the most incredible little figure sculpts and his techniques are nothing short of amazing. If you've seen my work and think it's good then picture this: he is better than me, as a matter of fact he was one of my tutors. So my point is that when you have vision, tools and devices become irrelevant. Use those eyes to look around at the stuff lying about your house and think "TOOL."
The basic idea when you want to sculpt is to try and create an image in your mind of what you want to make. If you are just starting out don't go crazy thinking you have to do the next "David" or make a doll as good as the professionals, keep it simple. Believe me when you are beginning to sculpt and you can sculpt a dog that looks like a dog or a person that doesn't come out looking like an extraterrestrial then you have done well.
