Dollhouse plants and flowers… Such a necessary thing to make our scale house look warm and comfortable. Many times finding the right growing inhabitant is quite simple, and some other times, really complicated.

When it comes to making plants and flowers, there's a huge resource of materials you can use to make your own "green habitants". Just take a look at the Gardening and Landscaping thread in the CDHM Miniature Forum for many ideas.

But taking a look in the CDHM Galleries "Indoors Out - Plants" (where you can see and buy plants, flowers, trees, and shrubs that will leave you breathless) will give you an idea of what can be done with just simple materials and a bit of talent and practice. Don't be disappointed if your works do not come out like the artisans in the CDHM galleries, your efforts will produce many wonderful things in no time.

When I first saw the ferns made by CDHM artisan Carolyn Mohler Kraft I was shocked! Not to mention her other creations, but the ferns blew my mind away. And I simply could not believe they were made out of floral tape (that green tape with blue on one side used to cover wires in floral arrangements and bridal bouquets).

So, I went on to think what materials could be used to make flowers and plants. Here's my list:

►    Floral Tape (of course!)
As we can see from Carolyn's work, green plants can be
made using it;

►    Aquarium Plants
There are several plastic aquarium plants with tiny
leaves that can be used. Just add a touch of paint to "break" that
plastic look. Also, there are some with tiny flowers as well;

►    Silk flowers and Leaves
Once more, just the small ones to be used for our
dollhouses and scenes. The leaves can be trimmed to size, and they
have the advantage of being tinted (and many times, with different
shades, a fact that adds realism);
