CDHM artisan Pilar Calle creates handmade dolls house scale miniatures "I look through books and I like to see the babies' shops and make the real dress in 1:12 scale. I also look at other doll artisans. There are many good artists that inspire me. I like the eyes of Gina Bellous' dolls, Dana Burton dolls are fantastic too, and Ann Marie Kwikkel dolls are very well-dressed."

Inspiration, imagination, and a sharp needle are Pilar's tools of her trade.

"I don't have any special tools, I use a small needle for sewing, and I use a magnifying glass too."

In contrast to her ordinary tools, the fabrics she uses when dressing her dolls are anything but. CDHM artisan Pilar Calle creates handmade dolls house scale miniatures

"I always use French lace and antique laces. I like to look for my materials in street markets. I use silk for dresses and bedspreads and fine batiste."

What she hopes to achieve through her work is as simplistic as her tools.

"I try to make a perfect work, and have fun with it. I try to make quality pieces at affordable prices."

The hardest part of her creative process is choosing the right style dress for a particular doll, then finding just the right fabrics and laces to make the look complete. Plus, she must also finish the faces, each with individual and distinct characteristics that will transform her dolls into unique, one-of-a-kind creations.
