If you still have room for more after this mammoth feast and get a "little" peckish as the evening wears on you could always turn to Agnes Turpin and sample some of her teatime treats displayed on this rolling tea cart.
Turkey aside, another recognisable symbol of Thanksgiving is the cornucopia, or Horn of Plenty. This decorative item is filled with autumn fruits or breads made from the harvested wheat and symbolises abundance.
As a little piece of trivia, did you know that the original cornucopia was a curved goat's horn, filled to overflowing with fruit and grain, and that it originated in Ancient Greece?
The culmination of the Thanksgiving celebration takes the form of many Thanksgiving parades that take place in cities all over the States.
The most famous of these being the annual Macy's Day Parade in New York. Dancers, balloons and many decorated floats fill the streets with the arrival of Santa Claus at the end of the parade signifying the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Now that is a thought that makes me panic - Christmas is looming!
To all my American friends, wherever they may be this Thanksgiving, have a wonderful time and enjoy all the fun and food that the celebration brings!
