"I always want more space than I have! My dream is to build a bigger studio with custom worktables and storage bins for my extensive fabric collection. I have a U-shaped work area that has a large piece of glass on one side where I sculpt. There is a painting station in the middle and a sewing counter on the opposite side.
"I have lights and magnifying instruments everywhere. I use lots of metal sculpting tools and a few boxwood tools. I love to sculpt with the Xacto stencil blade but my most outlandish - or perhaps embarrassing - tool is my grey flip top magna-visor with interchangeable lenses. I wear it religiously when sculpting faces and hands," said Colvin.
From wizened old men to wise old women and more, Colvin's figures are adorned in vintage fabrics, old laces and fine lawns, with the costumes sewn by hand or on the vintage Singer sewing machine on her worktable whenever possible.
She readily admits some costume pieces are harder than others.
