"Yes, as of right now I am a cat lady," says Artisan Aleah Klay. "I have an adult cat named Ginger and a kitten named Gracie, although I do plan on getting a dog again someday."
After seeing both Gracie and Ginger it's easy to visualize how Aleah's craft and her pets converge to make some really unique and adorable sculpts.
"They are very inspiring. I find myself wishing I could just freeze a certain pose or facial expression long enough to sculpt it. I take lots of pictures of them; it is my only way of quickly capturing their poses. Sometimes I use those picture as references when sculpting a cat."
Aleah is also teaching Ginger to respond to "clicker" commands, much like a dog would be trained "If I snap my finger or make a clicking noise with my tongue, Ginger will come to that noise. If I snap my finger and hold my hand over a certain spot, like a chair or table she will jump or climb up to that spot and sit directly under my hand."
Although Gracie is still young, she is learning a few "water sports" which is odd for a feline.
"I'm trying to get her to learn to swim. So far I've gotten her to like to play in water but if it gets too deep she gets scared and jumps out of the bathtub."
This water training does have come with some regrets.
"Gracie has been found playing in toilet water, which requires an immediate bath and she constantly plays with and dumps out her water dish!"
The bright side to all of this?
"I have managed to create a water-loving monster kitten!"
Both cats don't have any special treats; they do love shrimp, tuna, and cheese, which are quite normal, however it seems that Gracie has a very un-feline palate when it comes to treats.
"She'll eat pineapple, watermelon, strawberries and bread. Maybe she will grow out of the taste for these things as she becomes an adult?"
Gracie and Ginger have no fear of being forced to wear a costume this, or any year.
"I have never dressed any pets for Halloween although when I was about 18 I used my two pet rats in a Halloween display I set up in my parents' front window. It had ceramic skulls, plastic spiders, and lights. It looked awesome, and many times I'd open the door and find the people staring in the window. A few of the kids asked if they could pet the rats. It was a lot of fun!"
