I love fall.
There’s a certain warmth to the air totally different from the humidity of the past couple months and colors become more vibrant as if the earth is giving a farewell party before winter.
That plus the fact Halloween is right around the corner I’m a pretty happy individual.
Work on the Halloweentown House – my no-holds-barred fantasy house taking up a good portion of the kitchen table – has slowed over the hot summer months mainly because I can’t stand the thought of firing up the kiln or the oven to cure anything. Again, ciao September and better crafting weather.
A good many crafts are just better off created outdoors, and when the sun is gentle and the air becomes crisp, who can resist? From wood or rock carving to clay baking to sanding and painting, there is just no better time than fall. Especially if you’re lucky enough to live in an area where the trees provide an amazing backdrop of brilliant color.
I get distracted. This summer has just been so despicable on many fronts that I find myself savoring fall all the more. And the incredible amounts of rain and humidity have spawned an amazing mushroom colony almost everywhere I look. While I wouldn’t dare try to eat any, they are delicate and amazing to photograph and seem to come in two basic varieties: feathery grey circles that look kind of like UFOs when blown up on the computer screen and tiny white bead clusters like small scattered pearls.
Guess who’s been taking pictures of mushrooms and thinking about fairy rings instead of working?
Fall is the perfect time to be creating unique fairies or accessories. Or any other magical creature, after all, the walls between the worlds become thin just next month so who knows what might decide a mini looks good enough to take home?
Or take a look in our galleries and see if someone else’s imagination has been going into overdrive with something that suits your fancy.
I think I saw some more mushrooms to photograph. . .
