This month we celebrate Father's Day, and although my own father passed away over 17 years ago, there isn't a day that goes by when I don't benefit from a lesson he taught me, or use a skill that he passed on to me. Not only me, but to six other children as well. When we think back to what we did as children it's amazing he allowed us to live beyond the age of five.
There were the slip-shod fortresses we constructed in the back yard using an old tent, some two by four lumber and about six pounds of dad's common D nails. Somehow during the building of them 1:12 Knight by CDHM Artisan Tiggy Goldsmith of Mrs. TiggyWinkle Dolls we managed to lose his brand new hammer. It was actually the only hammer he ever had up to that point in his life that wasn't a hand-me-down. We were surprised the next spring when we found it buried under three inches of April mud! Sure it was a bit rusty, but it still worked pretty well. We thought he would be equally excited about our find, however it turned out not to be as exciting a discovery for him. But... He let us live.
