But Steampunk is definitely an oddity. Technically, Steampunk is a vision of a future that doesn't exist anymore. It was the way people imagined the future during the Victorian period. In their vision, machines would rule over the world. The mechanical machines, featuring gears, steam motors, bronze screws and old light bulbs would whistle, wheeze, grind and toot their service to the people who made them.
Mad scientists are not far away from this concept either. The magic of steampunk is completely scientific, like in Mary Shelley's best seller "Frankenstein." This is a classic steampunk novel. The professor Frankenstein brings his creature back to life with a Steampunk procedure - flashing lights, whistles and gears combined with a bolt of lightning.
You can find Steampunk's genesis also in the novels of Jules Verne. This French visionary author broke the imaginary limits of mankind with his fabulous machines, and gave man access to places, abilities and gadgets he couldn't even dream about before.
Steampunk is also ecological because of the period when it was created, yet it is definitely very rich as well. The Victorian period was full of brocade, pearls, jewels, velvets, embroideries, laces and many other precious embellishments. A corset, a top hat, laces, diamonds, ruby, sapphire and filigree lend a certain rhythm to this extraordinary magical mechanical.
